Know who is at Your Door

It seems like we have been living with the COVID-19 virus forever. Time has almost come to a standstill and every day seems the same. We worry we wait and all is quiet.

This unending loop was interrupted for me a few days ago when someone rang my door bell several times in a row. This surprised me because since the virus stay at home order weeks ago no one has been knocking at my door or ringing the doorbell.  Without hesitation, I opened the door to see who was there. It was a gentleman wanting to sell me some lawn care. I told him to back away from my door and he shouldn’t be going door to door without a permit. He said thank you and moved along.

By itself the story seems pretty tame, it is not. People who knock on your door to try and sell you something must have a license issued by the clerk’s office. There is a background check done on each person. This helps to protect residents from scammers and people who may do them harm. The clerk’s office is closed due to COVID-19 virus so he could not possibly have gotten a license.

So you look before you open your door. If you don’t know who it is, don’t answer the door. If you are concerned for your safety call the Redford Police non-emergency number 313-387-2551. Make the call, the police will come out to make them leave. Don’t argue or try to follow them this could put you in danger. We have a great police force, make the call and stay safe.
