About Pat McRae
Pat McRae was born in Detroit, and he graduated from Cody High School. He went on to graduate from the Bona Fide Apprenticeship Program of Tool and Die at Schoolcraft College, and he completed his Associate of Applied Science; Magna Cum Laude, at Baker College in 2004.
At the age of 18, Pat was a catechist at St. Suzanne’s Parish for children with special needs in the Mentally Impaired Confirmation program. He continued to participate in programs at St. Agatha’s Parish until its closing; serving on their School Board, co-created the “Adopt-A-Family” program, ran the 7th and 8th grade catechism programs, co-chaired the parish fair, and volunteered for a variety of fundraisers.
Over the years, Pat’s love for children has also involved him in a series of athletic endeavors including umpiring for the Michigan Umpire Association; Director of Umpires/Commissioner of Girls Softball for Redford Township Junior Athletic Association (RTJAA); and coaching CYO and High School sports at St. Agatha’s Parish in Redford. Pat has also served as a Girl Scout & Cub Scout Den Leader, Scout Master, and Cub Master. He was a member of the Citizens for the Redford Township Library.
As an active member of the UAW, Pat was a toolmaker at Ford Motor Company for over 30 years. He has represented the UAW as a Skilled Trades Delegate, “CAP” chair, Alternate Committeeman, and the Recording Secretary for UAW Local 245. He has served on the Metro-Detroit AFL-CIO (Wayne County) COPE Screening Committee and in activities such as “Paint the Town.” On the job, Pat was a facilitator with Employee Involvement and a member of the Q1 Steering Committee and ISO 1401 Committee at his plant.
Wherever there is a need, Pat is there.
In Redford, Pat has worked for our public schools, serving as President and Co-President of the Keeler Elementary Parent Club and served on the Redford Union Schools District-wide School Improvement Team. Pat was the Chair of the Redford Township Democratic Club (RTDC) and over the years, under his tenure he has managed Bingos which has provided the distribution of tens of thousands of dollars back into the Redford Township Community. He has been the State Central Delegate to the Michigan Democratic Party, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Pat has collected donations for the Redford Goodfellows during the Thanksgiving holiday. In 2014 he and his wife Betsy were named “Persons of the Year” at the Cognizance Dinner by The Redford Interfaith Relief.
Pat served 12 years on the Redford Township Board of Trustees and sat on both the Planning Commission as the Board’s Representative and the Site Committee. During his time as trustee, more than 56 miles of road have been paved including Seven Mile, many businesses have invested in the Township, a splash park and other upgrades have been made to our park system, water main breaks have been prevented, a downtown has been created. Pat’s leadership helped steer this community through the Great Recession and provided direction for our budgets to be balanced. In 2020 Pat was elected as Supervisor and is running for re-election this year. He will continue to move Redford Township forward. Pat and Betsy McRae are proud parents of five children, are grandparents to seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
