Keeping Us Safe in Redford Township-Police and Fire/Rescue

Feeling safe where we live is very important to all of us whether it is at our home, at our children's school, our community parks or while we shop. We want to feel safe and know that when we make that 911 call we will get fast and professional response.

Living in our diverse community we need to recognize the fears that people of color face daily. These fears are being felt all across our country. We need to work with all the groups we have in Redford to find peaceful solutions to make Redford a safe place for all our residents.

Safety is essential to a strong and growing community. This is why it is so important to make sure our police and fire departments are fully trained, staffed and have the equipment they need.

We need to make certain to have a visible police presence in our neighborhoods. Neighborhood policing is a must and I will work with the Police Department on ways to make that happen. One way is expanding the Neighborhood Watch Program, that has become a huge success here in Redford thanks to Sergeant Mansfield.

The Police and Fire Departments involvement in our community at charity events also goes a long way toward getting the Departments and residents to know each other beyond their responding in a crisis.

In the fire department we need to look at maintaining our third rescue squad. This will help ensure that our residents get the help they need when they need it most.

There are other improvements we need to make as well, such as traffic signal generators. This will allow us to keep the traffic signals running during power failures. I will work with the schools and our departments to find
ways to educate our children about the opioid epidemic. Financing is always an issue, so I support having a grant writer to help us maximize our efforts.

When we enter the post COVID-19 virus economy we will have many challenges with the Township budget to overcome. We will need thoughtful, experienced leadership to help guide us through this difficult time. I have 12 years experience on the Township Board in contract negotiations and managing budget shortfalls during the Great Recession while still providing services to our residents and businesses. With your support I will work hard to achieve this for you every day.
